10 Excellent Social Bookmarking Tools for Teachers
February, 2014
Social bookmarking is a new concept that has seen the light with the emergence of bookmarking services like the ones I cited below.Semantically speaking, ' social bookmarking' is made up of the the term " social " which is related to society and general interactions between people, and the verb " to bookmark " (used here as a gerund ending in ing) which has to do with recording and/or saving content for both later use and quick access. Weaving the semantic reference of the two words results in social bookmarking as we know it today : a collaborative and collective saving and sharing of web content.'
Below are some of the best social bookmarking websites I would recommend to teachers and students. Have a look and let us know what you think of them on our Facebook page.

1- Diigo

This is my favourite tool for socialbookmarking. Diigo is a powerful online research tool and collaborative research platform that integrates several key technologies, including social bookmarking, web annotation, tagging, and group-based collaboration, to enable a whole new process of online knowledge management and participatory learning in the 21st century.Diigo provides several apps/extensions, so you can collect everything or use Diigo for a specific purpose.
2- Livebinders

This is another powerful tool for saving and organizing your bookmarks. You can create as many binders as you want and in these online binders you can combine all of your cloud documents, website links and upload your desktop documents - to then easily access, share, and update your binders from anywhere.
3- Scoop.it

You can create as many boards as you want and you can also join other's boards and start a collaborative pinning experience. Pinterest has a handy bookmarklet that you can drag to the bookmarks toolbar and with one click you will be able to add anything you come across.
5- Edshelf

This is a discovery engine of websites, mobile apps, desktop programs, and electronic products for teaching and learning. You can create your won shelves and start curating your favourite web content or browse through the shelves of others to learn more about what they curate.
6- Delicious

This is a free service where you can save what you love on the web. Delicious keeps your stuff safe so it's there when you need it. It's easy to build up a collection of links, essentially creating your own personal search engine. It also allows you to organize your links so that when you’re looking for something, you can find it within seconds.
7- Educlipper

Some call it the new Pinterest for educators, Educlipper is really a great and promising website where teachers get to curate and organize digital content. Educlipper has been designed specifically for educators and by an educator ( Adam Bellow: founder ). The process of setting up your Educlipper account is pretty easy and can be done in a few clicks and once logged in you can instantly start adding content .
8- Symbaloo

Symbaloo is a personal startpage that allows you to easily navigate the web and compile your favorite site all in to one visual interface. Save your bookmarks in the cloud and access them from anywhere with any device.
